International activities
The Finnish Wood and Allied Workers’ Union actively represents its members' interests internationally. The main goal is to influence decision making within the European Union. This is mainly done in cooperation with other trade unions within the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW). The aim of the union is to promote European integration in a balanced way, taking into account not only economic but also social and environmental concerns. An important focus of activities is to promote the use of wood products in the single market as a way of tackling climate change.
Outside the EU work is centred around projects which are carried out together with the Finnish Trade Union Solidarity Center (SASK) and the Building and Woodworkers' International (BWI). The main objective of these projects is to strengthen unions in the third world and to promote sustainable forest management. The projects are also a way to address international social and environmental dumping, which have an affect on the employment in Finland via world trade.
